Dr. Smatt practices medicine according to the principles of Traditional Oriental Medicine-acupuncture, herbology, tui na (massotherapy), nutrition, exercise and meditation (qi gong and tai chi), feng shui, philosophy,and art(calligraphy).

He received his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in 1968 from Ohio State University, Columbus Ohio; his Veterinary Acupuncture Certification Training in 1988 from the International Veterinary Acupuncture Society, Los Angeles, CA; his Veterinary Homeopathic Certification Training from Dr. Richard Pitcairn of Eugene, OR in 1988; and his Master of Traditional Oriental Medicine from Pacific College of Oriental Medicine in San Diego, CA. Dr. Smatt has been continuing his education since 1996 to the present day.
