Successful Treatment of COPD
82 year old female presented in 2007 with a diagnosis of COPD of 3 years duration. She was using a puffer 4 times a day. Could walk just under 4 minutes on treadmill at 1 mph before becoming too winded to continue. On blood pressure medication for labile hypertension.
Treatment consisted of herbal capsules as well as exercise with oxygen therapy (EWOT). After 6 weeks she was able to walk 20 minutes on the treadmill at 1 mph (she can go longer but treatment time is limited to 20 minutes) and no longer uses her puffer. She contiued the EWOT therepy and as of Sept, 2011 still does not need a puffer. She also used to get pneumonia at least twice a year and now has had it only once in 4 years.
The patient is thrilled to be off of her puffer, breathing well and better able to walk and rise from her chair than she was 4 years ago.
